Pozza di Fassa (TN) - Italy - 6th and 7th March 1999
You inaugurate the ski- stadium Alloch, for which Pozza di Fassa has already applied to the FIS for a run of the female World Championship. For the first time the competition divides into two parts: semifinals on Saturday and finals on Sunday because of the unfavorable weather. In the qualifying events on Saturday morning Stefano Mantegazza and Elisabetta Timoteo were the faster but in the initial runs athletes often hide their tactics for the semifinal. Among the men Ignaz Ganhal wins again followed by Attilio Barcella, who overcomes Mantegazza in the general ranking. In the semifinal he was the best but in the finals he obtained only the 8. placement. 3. placement for the Italian Sergio Bergamelli. Among the women Timoteo wins the competition before Laura Gianera and Chiara Ottone. Thanks to his third season victory Ganhal consolidates his first placement in the ranking list with more than 150 points' lead over his pursuers. Barcella's second placement allowed Salomon Team 1 to win the stage and to get closer to Rossignol Team.
