7th stage of the Carving Cup International
San Martino di Castrozza (TN) - Italy - 15th March 1999
On the Tognola in San Martino takes place the last Italian stage. The opening wall is very steep and the piste has two big waves and a final jump before the finishing line. It is difficult to identify the right tactics. Roger Pramotton dominates the qualifying events while Sovrana Welf is determined to win at least once in order to stay near to Laura Gianera's score. Tognola is for sure the technically most demanding piste of the whole track. Moreover there are 10 turn centres just like in Pozza di Fassa instead of 8. In the finals the sun hides behind the Dolomites and the snow becomes harder. Annick Bonzon finds out the best strategy and wins. It is her second season success. Laura Gianera obtains the second placement followed by Sovrana Welf. Among the men Boselli thrashes his rivals. Mantegazza is second before Bergamelli. Ganhal is only fifth but obtains the necessary score to gain the victory of the whole track, even if the competition in Airolo is still missing.
