FIS CARVING CUP 2000 The FIS Carving Cup 2000 will be presented on the occasion of the FIS congress on next 7th and 8th October in Milan.
The International Ski Federation officially entrusted Giulio Rossi, Marco Di Marco and Carlo Vanzini from "Sciare Magazine" with the direction of the event after a meeting which took place on last 31st May in the FIS offices in Oberhofen. On last 14th June in Coira (Switzerland) "Sciare Magazine" constituted an International Organisation Committee with the partecipation of Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Germany whose representatives (such as the Swiss Lars Längauer and Mauro Robustelli) have the full support of their national ski federations. The presence of the FIS alpine ski coordinator Christian Steudler has strongly reinforced the FIS interest in this new ski event. The previous Edition (Carving Cup International '99 - FIS experimental) took place in 8 competitions (6 in Italy and 2 in Switzerland). The new FIS Carving Cup 2000 contemplates a 15 competitions calendar (6 in Italy, 3 in Switzerland, 2 in Austria, 3 in Germany and 1 in France). The Organisation Committee is determined to reach many goals, among which the most important is the promotion of ski and sport tourism thanks to the organisation of an event dealing not only with competitive spirit. A ski- tour with the test of materials in cooperation with the manufacturing firms of the sektor, with promotional competitions for the less experienced carvers, with lessons of ski instructors and with many other activities is the basis for an ideal and modern event which reaches the highest spectacularity with the FIS Carving Cup. The Organisation Committee decided to create an only tecnique structure (equipment, timing, tracing etc.) for al 15 competitions, in order to give to both athletes and places the same quality standard. The Organisation Committee also intends to constitue one secretariat for the administation of entrances and results. The official regulations still has to be detailly defined but it will not be much different from the previous one. For example the committee decided to vorbid the use of the classical ski suit, in order to offer a different and new form of competitive spirit repecting the modern concept of the carving world. The partecipation to the ski competition depends on a mechanism of points remembering the one used for the alpine snowboard but which still has to be worked out. For sure it is necessary to create national carving competitions which allow athlets to reach the necessary score to enter the international track. The curve centres go from minimum 8 to maximum 12, in order to adapt the track to the piste. The timing uses two electronic systems (photocells) and a manual one, according to the FIS standard for the World Cup competitions. The money pool of every single competition will at least double the one of the previous edition, which amounted to 10,000 Swiss francs. The Organisation Committee is examining the possibility of increasing the prizes in kind and to create a cash prize for teams and one for the final male and female winners. The distance limit of 8.5 cm between the contact ski/ snow and ski boots support is now of 10 cm. The Organisation Committee is allowed to check the correctness of this distance in every moment of the competition. Though the unofficial position of FIS concerning the partecipation of the transnational teams just like last year, the event is going to be strongly advertized by the sport news. They still have to establish the minimum and maximum number of athletes belonging to every team. The teams results contemplates the sum of the cup points (100, 80, 60, etc.) reached by the respective athletes (and no longer the sum of competition score obtained throught the time system: points x 100). Points obtained by a woman will be halved. For example: the female winner, who gains 100 points, can give of them only 50 to her team, this because the number of men is much higher than that of women. It follows from this that a female team could win each stage, if it would make use of the full score. For every competition are axcepted maximum 80 entrants (60 men and 20 women). The first 30 male athletes and the first 10 female athletes obtaining the highest FIS score (carving) are entered by full right. Athletes enjoying national competitions could obtain the useful score to enter the international competition. The entry is individual, per country and ski club and you have to be a member of your own national ski federation. At the drawing of the number each athlete has to pay an account of 5 Swiss francs. He will have a free of charge skipass to enter to all pheses of the competition. Each team has to send the Organisation Committee its own entry without necessary communicate the list of its athletes and will have to pay an account of 1,500 Swiss francs to enter the whole track of 15 competition. These are some news suggested by the Committee but they could be madified till the making rules official. Anyway regulations will be as clear and easy to understand as possible. |
